. William H. Cunningham holds the James L. Bayless Chair for Free Enterprise in the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. He teaches corporate governance at the McCombs School of Business and the Law School at The University of Texas at Austin.
Cunningham served as chancellor and chief executive officer of The University of Texas system from September 1992 to July 2000. He served as president of The University of Texas at Austin from 1985 to 1992 and was dean of the College and Graduate School of Business from 1983 to1985. Cunningham received his B.B.A., M.B.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Michigan State University.
Cunningham was awarded the Presidential Citation from The University of Texas at Austin in 2005. He has also received an Honorary Doctor of Law Degree and Distinguished Alumnus Award from Michigan State University. He has served on many various public commissions and boards, including The University of Texas Investment Management Company Board of Directors, the Houston Area Research Council Board of Directors, the Southwest Research Institute and the Economic Advisory Committee of the United States Department of Commerce. Cunningham is currently a member of the board of Southwest Airlines and John Hancock Mutual Funds. He previously served on the board of directors of LIN Media LLC and Resolute Energy Corporation.
