So one day I’m listening to one of my favorite podcasts-The James Altucher Show. I assumed James was interviewing an author, neuroscientist or some other kind of big thinker who had done something notable enough to be on one of the most downloaded podcasts in the world.
Well, I was right. James Quandahl had left a successful career in retail management. He had no real plan. All he knew was his life was destined for more. He knew deep down he wanted to write, coach and speak. As I listened I realized I was listening to a fellow traveler through this matrix we call life. James wanted to step out of the matrix and into a life of his own design.
Near the end of the podcast James Altucher gave James Quandahl the opportunity to make an ask of the audience. He told anyone listening that day he was starting a podcast. If anyone wanted to be on it, just e mail him. He then shared his e mail with most likely over a million people. I was one in a million. My mother had always told me that. In this instance it actually mattered.
I emailed James. I gave a brief lowdown on how I, like him, wanted to create content, live a life of purpose and thought a conversation would be mutually beneficial. He took the bait. We scheduled what was to become the first of a now regular call between the two of us. What was supposed to be a brief intro call with no real agenda turned into almost three hours of what I call “iron sharpening iron.” This from a verse found in the Bible that reads, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17
And it was there we decided one of these conversations needed to be recorded. We as humans need to sharpen one another. Conversations like the ones James and I have are absolutely imperative to becoming the best versions of ourselves. What you are about to listen to is not two guys who have it all figured out. Quite the contrary…we are two guys together endeavoring to figure things out.
I plan to offer up more such episodes with other sharpers of iron. I think this will prove to be one of the most meaningful segments of the Jason Wright Show I offer. Please tune in to these and all others. I’m sincerely grateful for you being a part of this journey. And to my buddy James..thank you brother. Your encouragement means the world to me. Here’s to many more iron sharpening sessions.
After almost two decades James Quandahl left his successful retail career behind to build a business and pursue his passion of learning something new each day and sharing it with others. James reads at least one book a week and devours the podcasts, blogs, magazines, and presentations from leaders in business & marketing, self-help, health & wellness, and fiction and poetry.
In 2015 and 2016 James raised over $6,000 to provide safe access to clean drinking water for 125 children by running two marathons on team World Vision. In 2015 James received a private invitation to visit NASA’s Space Launch Complex at California’s Vandenberg Air Force Base. Here he got a private front-row experience tour, met with NASA’s administrator Charlie Bolden and the head the NASA’s earth sciences department, and even got to see the mission control center.
James managed the launch of the Christian Gratitude Journal on Kickstarter where 598 backers pledged a total of $28k to produce the journal. He lead the launch of the Wall Street Journal and Amazon bestselling book Boundless written by New York Times bestseller Ben Greenfield.
After writing a review of James Altucher’s book Skip The Line, James was selected for a one on one mentorship by James Altucher. The entire mentorship is being recorded and released as podcast episodes on The James Altucher Show.
